We initiated the conversation for FLUTTER by establishing project principles to define what we want to achieve: spatial quality, materiality, and the technological/interactive dimension. We were intrigued by the idea of a stationary object versus an object in motion. We experimented with a simplistic circular motion created by a motor and the effect it can have on a dangling string with a weight attached to it. We concluded that the string forms nodes that appear as wavelengths when spun in a circle. Expanding on the preface of Nuit Blanche Toronto, we made the string fluorescent and lit it with a blue light to cause it to glow in the dark.
